Caught Red-Hatted
Case# 21-6458
On 10/27/21 at approximately 8:40 am, Officers were dispatched to a suspicious circumstance at W. 7th Street and Orange Street. The reporting party observed a subject taking items from a vehicle and leaving the area. The reporting party believed that the vehicle may have been stolen. A Chico Police Officer arrived on scene and confirmed that the vehicle was an unreported stolen. The owner had last observed the vehicle the previous night before they went to sleep. The Officer investigating the theft obtained surveillance video of the suspect.
Chico Police Enhances Police Portal
In September 2019, the Chico Police Department created the Chico Police Portal to provide accurate and timely access to crime and other public safety related information occurring in our neighborhoods, parks, business districts, essentially anywhere in the City of Chico. As the police department continues to be engaged and transparent as to what is occurring in our community, this technology allows for real time information to educate and inform our citizens.
Felony DUI
Case# 21-006303
On 10-19-21 at approximately 10:55 pm, the Chico Police Department Dispatch Center received a report of a reckless vehicle on Esplanade near Panama Avenue. The vehicle was described as a white Ford Mustang with a white racing stripe. Officers from the Chico Police Department checked the area and were unable to locate the vehicle.

In September 2020, the Chico Police Department began witnessing a rising trend in more serious, violent crime occurring in our community. In addition to the City of Chico, communities throughout our nation were also experiencing a concerning pattern of rising crime, specifically in violent crimes involving illegally possessed weapons and firearms. Chief Matt Madden attributed this disturbing trend to continued de-criminalization of certain crimes and other legislative bills that hampered the ability of law enforcement to reduce crime.
Felon in Possession of a Firearm/DUI/ Child Endangerment
Case# 21-006222
On 10/15/2021 at approximately 2015 hours Chico Police officers were dispatched to a single vehicle collision on E. 16th St. near Laurel St. When officers arrived they located a compact car, with severe front-end damage, in a yard near the intersection. In addition, a large utility dump trailer, originally parked on the shoulder, was struck by the car and pushed out into the roadway.

Case #21-006133
On 10/11/21 at approximately 2334 hrs. CPD Dispatch received a
report of a hit-and-run collision involving a pedestrian the 2800
Block of Cohasset Rd. Officers and medics arrived on scene and
located the injured victim laying on the shoulder of Cohasset Rd.
Just south of Lupin Ave. The victim was transported from the
scene to a local hospital for treatment.
Shooting at City Plaza Update

The Chico Police Department Criminal Investigations Section continues to actively investigate the shooting incident that occurred at the Downtown City Plaza on October 7th, 2021, at 5:01am. At this time a suspect has not been identified. Detectives are following up on all leads and request that anyone with information regarding this crime to please contact Detectives at (530) 897-5820.
Plaza Shooting
Case# 21-006031
On October 7, 2021, at 05:01 am, Chico Police Officers were dispatched to a shooting at the City Plaza, 401 Broadway Street, Chico.
Officers arrived on scene within two minutes and located the victim of a gunshot wound. Officers began treating the victim. Witnesses reported seeing a male suspect next to a parked vehicle on W. 5th Street. The suspect fired multiple rounds at the victim. The suspect fled the scene after the shooting and has not been located.
Armed Suspect Arrested for Burgarly

On October 6, 2021, at about 11:14 pm, Chico Police Dispatch received a call of an intruder in a residence on E. Lassen Avenue. The victim reported that an unknown suspect forced his way into her residence, knocking her to the ground. The suspect was threatening to kill a man who did not live at the location.
Wanted Parolee Arrested in Chico
Case# 21-6015
On 10-6-2021 at approximately 9:00 AM, Chico Police received information that a wanted sex offender parolee was going to be in the area of commercial business in south Chico. Information was obtained that the suspect had cut his GPS ankle monitor and had recently fled from law enforcement. Chico Police Patrol units and Detective personnel conducted surveillance of the area and observed the suspect, identified as Trevor Deleon, enter the parking lot of the business with a female passenger.
Vandalism Arrest

On 10/1/21, the Chico Police Department received multiple 911 calls about a male in a vehicle chasing a subject on foot through the parking lot of a business in the 2100 block of Pillsbury Rd. Numerous officers responded to the area and determined the subject in the vehicle, name withheld, chased the pedestrian, later identified as Paul Rose, after Rose struck and broke the driver’s side window after the victim attempted to get Rose to move out of the roadway. The victim followed Rose through the parking lot and eventually to a nearby apartment complex.
Cat Burglar Caught on Camera

It seems that a large portion of security camera notifications in the middle of the night turn out to be cats or racoons walking in the driveway. Not today. On 9/27/21 at approximately 5:05 am, when everyone should be sleeping, Dispatch received a call of a subject possibly burglarizing Sierra Automatic Transmission (173 East Ave, Chico). The employee observed a subject inside of the business selecting items on the business security camera. Officers quickly arrived on scene and set up a perimeter. The suspect became aware of Officers presence.
Fatal Collision
Case#21-005778
On Sunday Sept 26th, 2021 at about 3:43pm, Chico Police dispatch received several 911 calls of a vehicle versus motorcycle collision at 8th and Main Streets in Downtown Chico. When Officers arrived on scene, they discovered a severely injured motorcyclist. The other involved vehicle had driven into an unoccupied building and was lodged inside. The motorcyclist was transported to a nearby hospital where a trauma team was activated. The two occupants of the other vehicle were able to walk out of the car and awaited medical treatment.
Strong-Arm Robbery

On 9/26/21 at approximately 1236 hrs. Chico Police Officers responded to a reported strong-arm robbery at a business in the 200 block of W. East Ave. The reporting party stated that two juvenile males entered the store and attempted to steal merchandise, when they were confronted by store clerks. A struggle ensued, and the suspects forced their way past the clerks with stolen merchandise. One clerk sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene by medical staff.
Annoy/Molest and Resisting with Violence Arrest

On 9/26/21 at approximately 1410 hrs, Chico Police responded to a local business in the 1000 block of E. 20th St. on a report of an adult male inappropriately touching juveniles inside the business. The male suspect was unknown to the juveniles. The male was promptly ejected from the business by management while the report was being made to police.
Suspects Arrested after Strong-Armed Robbery

On September 23, 2021, at about 9:19 p.m. a citizen reported being the victim of a strong-arm robbery by an unknown suspect at Sycamore Pool in Lower Bidwell Park.
At about 11:45 p.m. the citizen called back saying he located the robbery suspect in front of 7-11, 101 Main Street. Chico Police Officers responded to the area and Gerald Roehrich (age 53) ran from officers. Roehrich discarded some of the victim’s property as he ran. Roehrich surrendered when he realized he was about to be outrun by Chico PD K-9 Aron.
Subject Arrested After Groping Woman

On September 22, 2021, at about 11:48 pm Chico Police Dispatch received a call of a vegetation fire on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway, just south of World Market. Chico Fire and Cal-Fire personnel responded and quickly extinguished what was determined to be three separate grass fires. The area burned totaled approximately 1-2 acres. There were no structures damaged.
Disturbing Vandalism on Hawthorne Ave., Chico

On Tuesday September 21st the Chico Police Department received a call of a vandalism that occurred in the 1300 block of Hawthorne Ave. Officers responded to a private school and found graffiti on the campus. This incident was of special concern as the graffiti appeared to be swastikas. Compounding our concern was the fact that the school is adjacent to a Church.
Vehicle Code Violations Enforced at Comanche Creek
The Chico Police TARGET TEAM was active on the south end of Chico today enforcing vehicle code violations. Four vehicles were noticed for a violation of 4000(a) of the California Vehicle Code. These vehicle’s registrations were all expired past 6 months. This would make the vehicle immediately subject to being towed. The Police Department put notices on the vehicles and will give the registered owners 7 days to get them in compliance with the Department of Motor Vehicles or they will be towed.
Armed Subject Arrested with Controlled Substances
Case# 21-005657
On September 21, 2021, at about 12:30 a.m., A Chico Police Officer was on patrol in the area of Kohl’s department store, 1505 Springfield Drive. The officer spotted an occupied vehicle stopped in the parking lot. There were no open businesses in the area, so the officer spoke with the driver, Jacoby Gilbert (46 years old).
The officer had a casual conversation with Gilbert. During the conversation Gilbert admitted to having a firearm in his vehicle. The officer searched the car and located a Glock handgun, 3 loaded magazines, heroin, methamphetamine and Xanax pills.
