How to Apply for Permits Online

Use eTRAKiT to apply for certain types of permits online.

Permits not listed may be submitted by Digital Plan Submittal with the permit application.

You must have your valid City of Chico business license number and
Your California’s State Contractor’s License Number.
Please read permit work description above, for important information needed for a permit.
Contractors new to the eTRAKiT system need to call (530)879-6700 to be set up.

Applying for a Permit

If you are applying for a permit for the first time please read carefully.

You may find the examples below helpful when describing the work you would like to be permitted:

Online Payments through eTRAKiT are currently unavailable. An email with payment instructions will be sent out to the applicant when payment is ready to be received. Please check back for an updated status on Online Payments.

Mobile and Manufactured Home Permits

For mobile and manufactured home permits, please contact the California Department of Housing and Community Development (916) 255-2501 to determine if your permit is under their jurisdiction or that of the City of Chico Building Division.

2022 CALIFORNIA BUILDING CODE SIGNIFICANT CHANGES WORKSHOP (RESIDENTIAL)

Below is a link to a recording and slide presentation for a December 5, 2022 Workshop that provided an overview of significant changes to the 2022 California Residential Building Code scheduled to take effect January 1, 2023. City of St. Helena Chief Building Official Philip Henry provided the overview. Workshop sponsors were the City of Chico, Valley Contractors Exchange, Chico Builders Association, and Butte County Development Services.
