Code Enforcement
The Code Enforcement Division is responsible for the preservation of neighborhoods by gaining compliance with applicable ordinances within the Chico Municipal Code.
Common Code Violations:
- Accumulation of junk/trash/debris
- Long-term storage of RV's, trailers, boats on public property (streets, public rights-of-way)
- Inoperable/abandoned vehicles-PRIVATE PROPERTY ONLY
- INOPERABLE/ABANDONED CARS OR TRUCKS ON PUBLIC PROPERTY ARE HANDLED BY CHICO POLICE DEPARTMENT/TRAFFIC at (530) 897-4910
- Unauthorized materials in the public right-of-way
- Zoning Violations
- Trash can placement/inadequate garbage service
- Sign Violations
- Illegal Camping
- Building/Construction Violations
- Substandard Housing
Code Enforcement investigates complaints concerning substandard housing issues and works with the various property management companies and property owners to ensure that residents of Chico live in a healthy and properly maintained environment. Staff sponsors and participates in Drop and Dash, a community cleanup event held annually in May. For more information, contact the Code Enforcement Office at (530) 879-6330.
Code Enforcement staff is responsible for the identification of vacant properties that contain weeds and work with the property owners and City Council to ensure abatement.
