Operations & Maintenance
Streets, Sidewalks, and Alley Grading
Our street maintenance section is
responsible for maintaining more than 300 miles of streets and
includes repairing potholes, eliminating hazardous sidewalk
conditions with temporary repairs, repairing pavement failures
prior to resurfacing or replacement, grading shoulders and
alleys, graffiti removal in the public right-of-way, and
responding to other emergency street conditions as needed.
Street Sweeping & Leaf Collection
Street Sweeping
When: Every two weeks February through October; except on holidays and during leaf collection.
Where: Public city streets with established paved shoulders and established curbs. No private roads, alleys, or unincorporated Butte County roads.
Why: Prevents debris from entering storm drain systems, creeks and streams. Helps prevent localized flooding and keeps our streets and waterways clean and safe.

Which Trees does the City Maintain?
The City owns and maintains “Street Trees” that are located in the Right-Of-Way for the benefit of the community. There are three typical Right-Of-Way planting conditions along City streets:
1) sidewalk separated from the curb by a park strip; Where the right-of-way typically ends behind the sidewalk.

Sewers Collection System Maintenance
We maintain the citywide sanitary sewer and storm drain collection system. This is accomplished through three basic programs.

Facilities Maintenance
We maintain all of the City’s buildings, a total of 500,000 square feet, including the 45,000-square-foot Municipal Center, and the Chico Municipal Airport (CMA) terminal.
