The Public Works Operations & Maintenance Department aims to maintain safe, efficient, and reliable street, storm drain, sewer collection, airport, fleet, buildings, and wastewater treatment facilities.

If you see any of the following unsafe conditions, please call us immediately (530) 894-4200
  • Traffic signals out or not operating properly
  • Missing, or damaged stop signs
  • Downed trees or other hazards blocking the road
  • Sewer or storm line backups
  • Missing manhole or storm drain covers/grates

** UPDATE** Temporary Resting Site

Closed September 17, 2021

The Temporary Resting Center (TRC) located at 700 Airport Service Road on the west side of the Chico Municipal Airport was closed on Friday, September 17th, 2021 and is no longer available. Onsite notification took place Monday, September 13th, 2021.

Streets, Sidewalks, and Alley Grading

Our street maintenance section is responsible for maintaining more than 300 miles of streets and includes repairing potholes, eliminating hazardous sidewalk conditions with temporary repairs, repairing pavement failures prior to resurfacing or replacement, grading shoulders and alleys, graffiti removal in the public right-of-way, and responding to other emergency street conditions as needed.

Street Sweeping & Leaf Collection

Street Sweeping

When: Every two weeks through May, then every four weeks; except on holidays and during leaf collection.

Where: Public city streets with established paved shoulders and established curbs. No private roads, alleys, or unincorporated Butte County roads.

Why: Prevents debris from entering storm drain systems, creeks and streams. Helps prevent localized flooding and keeps our streets and waterways clean and safe.

Signals, Streetlights, Markings & Signs

Traffic Signals

Please call us immediately if you see a traffic signal out or not operating properly. (530) 894-4200, Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm or (530) 897-4911 after hours.

Facilities Maintenance

We maintain all of the City’s buildings, a total of 500,000 square feet, including the 45,000-square-foot Municipal Center, and the Chico Municipal Airport (CMA) terminal.

Fleet Maintenance

The Fleet/Equipment Maintenance Unit ensures compliance with prevailing laws and regulations related to City vehicles and garage operations. It furnishes safe reliable vehicles and equipment at the lowest possible cost with the least possible interruptions of other operations.
