Overview
CALBO Building  Division of the Year

The Building Division is responsible for activities related to the construction, remodeling, and demolition of buildings and structures.

By reviewing building permit applications, issuing building and related permits, checking plans, and inspecting buildings and properties, the Division can ensure compliance with applicable codes and ordinances. The Division is responsible for enforcing all applicable building, mechanical, energy, accessibility, plumbing, electrical and housing codes and laws adopted by the City and State to ensure a safe and habitable building environment.

Announcements:

Applicants for building permits, thank you for submitting an application with the City of Chico.  We are currently experiencing problems with our online payment portal. Your patience as we work to correct the problem is greatly appreciated. Meanwhile, please use your dashboard to track your application status and a notification will be sent to you when your application payment is ready to be received.

Free preapproved ADU Building Plans with updated building code requirements are available.

Upcoming Holiday Closures:

Friday, December 22nd, 2023 through Monday January 1st, 2024 City Hall will be closed in observance of the Winter Recess.  Re-opening Tuesday January 2nd, 2024

***ATTENTION*** Wednesdays between 8:00am and 9:00am, the Permit Counter and some Building Division staff may be unavailable to assist at the front counter so they can participate in the Building Division’s internal progress meeting.  

***ATTENTION*** On the fourth Tuesday of each month, between 8:00am and 9:00am, Building inspector staff  will be in a mandatory meeting that may impact your AM inspection requests.

  • City Hall hours.
  • Mornings 8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Monday – Friday
  • Afternoons 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday
  • Financial transactions are not accepted after 4:00 p.m.
  • Closed on  First Wednesday of the Month 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
