Police Drone Program
In July 2021, the Chico Police
Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) program, commonly known as drones,
was implemented.
The department currently has seven pilots who hold a commercial drone, Part 107 license, issued by the Federal Aviation Administration. Chico PD currently has 13 drones ranging from small “micros” to our largest platform, the “Matrice 30”. Our Mavic Enterprise Advanced drones along with the M-30’s have a thermal camera that allows officers to track activity more effectively in the dark.
