City of Chico

Park Avenue Beautification Project

currently in design phase

currently in design phase

In 2024, the City of Chico received a Clean California Grant to improve Park Avenue, from East Park Avenue to East 20th Street.  The project area is in poor condition primarily due to the aging infrastructure. While the City has recently maintained the roadway and replaced pedestrian ramps, the visual aspects such as the tree canopy, the spotty shrubs, litter and cracking bike path and crumbling public art need attention. This project will:
  • Restore and repave the Chico-Durham Bike Path
  • Restore landscaping with drought-tolerant, native species
  • Remove and replace dead and diseased trees
  • Provide irrigation updates for center medians and street trees
  • Remove and replace the public art exhibit
  • Provide a placemaking/gateway feature within the corridor, and
  • Enhance litter abatement efforts along Park Avenue and the adjacent Comanche Creek Greenway.
