On 7/19/20, at 4:01 p.m., the Chico Police Dispatch Center received a 911 call from a woman saying the wanted subject, Jared Kelly, was in her house. A priority response was made by Chico Police units, who arrived within two minutes of the original call. Kelly was located inside the residence and was arrested without incident. He was still wearing the handcuff from this morning’s incident and was suffering from exhaustion and minor puncture wounds from his altercation with K9 Pax this morning.
K9 Pax was not injured and not deterred in this morning’s incident and is working in full duty capacity, serving the citizens of Chico. No officers suffered injury. After being medically cleared at Enloe Hospital, Kelly was sent to the Butte County Jail in Oroville and booked for Resisting Arrest by violence, Battery on a Police K9, Battery on a Peace Officer and a restraining order violation.
Chico, CA – During the early morning hours of Sunday, July 19 , 2020 an Officer with the Chico Police
Department observed 38 year old Jared Kelly, a wanted subject, in the area of 19th Street and Normal Avenue, Chico. When contacted, Kelly fought with the Police Officer resulting in the deployment of a Police K9, named Pax, to assist in the apprehension of Kelly. Kelly fought with K9 Pax, striking Pax several times, before escaping into a nearby open area. An extensive area check was conducted with nearly every on-duty Chico PD Officer assisted by Deputies from the Butte County Sheriff’s Office. Kelly was not apprehended and remains at large. Kelly was last seen with a pair of handcuffs fastened to one wrist. The Chico Police Department is requesting assistance from the public in determining the whereabouts of Kelly.
