Wanted Subject Arrested After Burglarizing Two Homes

Case# 22-005099

Post

On August 17, 2022, at about 7:00 AM, a citizen called Chico PD Dispatch and said an unknown male subject (later identified as Jacob RUIZ) had entered her house, rummaged through her belongings and was in her bathroom. The victim screamed and chased after RUIZ, and he ran out the front door of the house. All available units responded to the scene and found RUIZ a short time later in the parking lot of 400 Mission Ranch Blvd. RUIZ tried to run away from the responding units, but officers gave chase and caught him after a short foot pursuit. RUIZ was positively identified by the victim as breaking into her home.

Officers searched RUIZ and found items that were possibly stolen from a different home on the 2500 block of Esplanade. Officers contacted a new victim there and found his home was also broken into during the night. This victim had slept through the intrusion and had not seen RUIZ in his home. However, through investigation, a specially trained crime scene investigator (CSI) found new evidence on RUIZ. This new evidence from the CSI showed that RUIZ was in fact inside the victim’s home during the night.

RUIZ was booked into the Butte County Jail for violating two counts of Penal Code section 459 – 1 st Degree Residential Burglary. RUIZ was also booked on several outstanding felony warrants.
