Wanted Sex Offender Arrested

On January 14, 2023, the Chico Police Department obtained information that a wanted sex offender from the Sacramento Police Department was hiding in an apartment on the 1700 block of Mangrove Avenue in Chico. The investigation revealed that 36-year-old Arthur Aragon had been absconding from his duty to register as a Sex Offender and was wanted in both Butte and Sacramento Counties.
The California sex offender definition includes anyone convicted of certain sex crimes, including rape, sex crimes involving minors, and indecent exposure. Under California sex offender laws, sex offenders must register with the California sex offender registry. Failing to register, according to the legal requirements of California Penal Code section 290, is a criminal offense. In Aragon’s case, the offenses and subsequent warrants for his arrest were felonies.
Aragon was contacted and arrested, without incident or injury, outside an apartment in the 1700 block of Mangrove Avenue. He was booked at the Butte County Jail for the warrants.
