FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Chico, CA – On 3/15/2020 at approximately 0918 hours, Chico Police Officers were dispatched to E. Lindo Avenue and Downing Avenue in regards to a subject dismantling bicycles near a Ford Aerostar parked on the side of the road. Officers contacted the subject who provided verbal identification. Officers conducted a records check of the license plate on the vehicle which returned to a Mercedes. The VIN number on the Ford Aerostar was a match for a stolen vehicle out of Fair Oaks, California.
As Officers attempted to detain the subject he fled on foot through Lindo Channel towards Manzanita Avenue. Officers gave chase as the subject eventually made his way into a rear yard near the 2100 block of North Avenue. A perimeter was established in an attempt to keep the subject in that specific area. While Officers were waiting for a police K-9 to arrive and conduct a search for the suspect, the residents of 2 Montclair Drive contacted Officers about a subject they located inside their residence. Officers contacted the subject who was identified as the person that fled from Officers. The subject had forced entry through a rear door at 2 Montclair Drive and changed into clothing belonging to the resident in an attempt to conceal himself from Officers.
The subject initially provided a false name, but was later
identified by the Butte County Jail as Tyler Mickel. Mickel had a
felony warrant out of W. Sacramento Police Department. During a
search of the stolen vehicle pepper spray was also located.
After a medical clearance at a local hospital, Mickel was booked into the Butte County Jail for the following charges:
-Residential Burglary (felony)
-Vehicle Theft (felony)
-Felon in possession of pepper spray (felony)
-Resisting Arrest (misdemeanor)
-Providing a false name to a peace officer (misdemeanor)
