Vehicle Theft/ Pursuit Arrest

On November 10, 2021, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on E. 5th Avenue. The driver, Rosa Valdez (age 42), had a felony warrant for her arrest. As officers were about to detain Valdez she fled in her vehicle. Officers pursued the vehicle for about one mile and then terminated the pursuit.
On November 15, 2021, a citizen reported their Ford Escort stolen and they named Valdez as the suspect in the theft.
On November 22, 2021, a citizen reported a vehicle burglary in North Chico. The citizen advised that the suspect in the vehicle burglary was driving the stolen Ford Escort. Officers responded to the area, but they were unable to locate the suspect vehicle at that time.
On November 24, 2021, at about 4:55 a.m., a Chico Police Officer spotted the stolen Ford Escort driving through Chico. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle on Park Avenue, but the vehicle failed to yield. Officers pursued the vehicle to a dead-end road in Durham where the suspects surrendered.
The driver, Rosa Valdez, was arrested on her felony warrant, one violation of 10851(a) CVC-Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, and two violations of section 2800.2(a) CVC-Reckless Evading. The passenger, Vincent Kelly (age 25), was arrested on two felony warrants and fresh violations of sections 11377(a) H&S-Possession of Methamphetamine, and 11350(a) H&S-Possession of Heroin. Valdez and Kelly were booked into the Butte County Jail.
