Vehicle Collision

On 09/13/22, at 10:33 A.M., the Chico Police Department responded to a two-vehicle collision near the intersection of E. 1st Ave. and Mildred Ave. As a result of the collision, one of the involved vehicles crashed through the front of a nearby residence, causing a natural gas leak.
The roadway and several nearby residences were evacuated for approximately 30 minutes. Hooker Oak Elementary School was also advised to have all students and teachers shelter in place while PG&E and the Chico Fire Department worked to shut off the gas.
The residence was severely damaged, but luckily, no one was injured during the initial collision or the resulting crash into the residence.
An investigation into the collision found neither of the involved drivers was impaired.
Parts of Mildred Ave. will be closed while PG&E works on the natural gas lines.
