*UPDATE* 1-3-22 /Robbery Suspect Arrested

Prior to today’s incident described below, eight armed robberies have been reported at markets in West Chico since December 14th, 2021. Three of the robberies occurred at the Sinclair market and gas station located at 1115 W. 6th Street. Accordingly, the CPD Patrol Division initiated extra patrols to both deter robbery suspects and to increase the chances of apprehending them should additional robberies occur.

On December 31st , 2021, at approximately 09:50 a.m., the CPD Communications Center received notification that another armed robbery had just occurred at the Sinclair market. Responding patrol officers located and contacted a suspect nearby. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and identified as Robert Studdard. Charges requested against Studdard, and the resulting bail amount are pending.

The Chico Police Department Violence Suppression Unit and Detective Bureau will continue to investigate the eight previous robberies to establish if Studdard, or other suspects were responsible. In the meantime, the Patrol Division will continue robbery focused patrols in our business districts.

Update After Studdard’s arrest, detectives evaluated evidence and reviewed each of the nine (9) armed robbery investigations that occurred in West Chico since December 14th, 2021. Detectives established probable cause to show that Studdard was responsible for each of the incidents. Consequently, on 12/31/21 armed robbery charges were requested for each case. Studdard was sent to Butte County Jail to await arraignment. Bail was denied. Locations: multiple – see previous press releases.
