Three Arrested in Stolen Vehicle Recovery

On September 2nd, 2023, at 1:06 p.m., The Chico Police Dispatch Center received several calls from witnesses stating three teens had just crashed a car at the intersection of The Esplanade and Rio Lindo Avenue and fled from it. Officers arrived within two minutes and met with witnesses. It was discovered the vehicle the three had fled from was a reported stolen vehicle. A description was obtained and an area check for the three was initiated. One of the suspects was found walking away eastbound on Rio Lindo Avenue and detained without incident. A short time later, Officers obtained information the remaining two suspects were hiding in an apartment in the 300 block of Rio Lindo Avenue. Those two were contacted and detained. All three were positively identified as the three suspects who had fled from the vehicle. Their ages were 14, 15 and 15 years old. The investigation revealed the juveniles drove into a curb and flattened the tires of the vehicle. With the vehicle disabled, all three fled. No other vehicles were involved in the incident and no one was hurt. The vehicle was confirmed to have been stolen.
During this call, from the initial call from a citizen, through the investigation, attentive members of the public were able to provide information to officers which assisted in locating and detaining the three responsible. The Chico Police Department would like to thank the members of the public who, without putting themselves in danger, were able to provide information which led to an efficient and safe apprehension of the suspects. All three were transported to the Butte County Juvenile Hall.
