Subdivision Ordinance Update

Post

City staff has been working with a stakeholder group of engineers, surveyors, and developers as part of an effort to improve and streamline the development review process as it relates to the subdivision procedures in Title 18 of the Chico Municipal Code.  We have a draft of the subdivision ordinance rewrite available for your review and comment.  The proposed changes to the subdivision ordinance reflect rewrite several the following basic goals and principles:

  • Update the subdivision ordinance for compliance with State laws and the Subdivision Map Act
  • Empower staff to approve more types of minor maps and related applications
  • Approve Parcel Maps administratively at the Map Advisory Committee
  • Reorganize the Code for clarity

A PDF of the draft Update is attached to this website link, along with a Table of Contents and “cheat sheet” showing where existing Code sections can be found in the Update, and a table highlighting changes to the approval of various maps and other applications.

Staff anticipates bringing the proposed amendments to the Planning Commission in August or September 2023, and the City Council thereafter.
