Structure Fire

On July 3, 2021, at 5:31 p.m., The Chico PD Dispatch Center received multiple 911 calls of a structure fire behind a residence on the 100 block of W. 19th Street in Chico. Chico Fire responded and found a small structure behind the residence fully engulfed. The fire also began to spread to nearby vegetation. By 5:47 p.m., Chico Fire crews had the fire knocked down and began a search of the building. During the search, one person was located deceased inside the structure. Chico Fire Investigators along with the Chico Police Department conducted an investigation into the cause of the fire. At this point in the investigation, it appears the cause of the fire is not malicious nor suspicious. The identity of the victim is being investigated and will be withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
