Stolen Vehicle Arrest

On February 23, 2022 at about 6:38 pm, the Chico Police Dispatch Center received a 911 from a citizen, reporting their vehicle had just been stolen from the 2100 block of Fern Ave. The citizen advised they left their cell phone in the vehicle and was actively tracking the cell phone’s location. The citizen continually informed the dispatch center of the cell phone’s location, which was then broadcasted to patrol units in the field. At about 6:44 pm, an officer located the reported stolen vehicle driving eastbound on W 8th Ave from the area of Greenwich Dr. The officer followed the vehicle until additional officers arrived to assist. Once additional officers arrived, they conducted a High-Risk Enforcement Stop. The vehicle immediately yielded, and the two occupants were detained without incident. Both occupants were juveniles.

During the investigation, officers learned the vehicle was stolen after being left unattended and running while parked in a residential neighborhood.

The driver juvenile was arrested for 10851(a) CVC and booked into the Butte County Juvenile Hall. The other juvenile was released to a relative.
