On 11/02/2020 @ 0300 hours, Chico Officer Charles Stelzner was at the end of his shift and driving toward the Chico Police Department. While en route, heading southbound on SR99 at E. 1St Ave, Officer Stelzner checked the registration status on a 2005 Toyota Avalon. The vehicle returned as a stolen vehicle out of the Corning area.
Officer Stelzner and additional Chico Police officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop on the stolen vehicle. The driver pulled off the freeway and into a closed business on the corner of E. 8th St. and Bartlett St. The sole occupant of the stolen vehicle complied with the officer’s commands and was taken into custody without incident.
The driver, identified as Lena Sullivan, had three felony warrants, Nevada County and Sacramento County. Additionally, a loaded firearm (stolen) was found in the driver’s side door panel. This firearm and other property found inside the stolen vehicle belonged to an elderly victim in the Oroville area. The victim in this case was not aware the property had been stolen but knew the suspect as someone who was assisting her in packing her belongings to move out of state. The victim had recently lost her husband and was moving to be closer to family. Butte Co. S.O. responded to the victim’s home to take a theft report.
Sullivan was booked into the Butte County Jail on her (3) felony warrants, auto theft, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of stolen property. In addition, Sullivan is a convicted felon and was booked for felon in possession of a stolen firearm and felon in possession of ammunition.
