Stabbing at Children’s Park
22-002665
On 05/02/22 at about 12:15 PM, Chico Police officers responded to Children’s Park for a reported stabbing. A juvenile victim reported that a suspect stabbed him with a knife. The suspect also reportedly brandished a firearm. The suspect fled the scene, so patrol officers canvassed the area while school resource officers initiated a lockdown of Chico Senior High School. The school remained on lockdown for approximately 30 minutes.
Patrol officers and CPD communications staff developed a suspect lead. Detectives and officers responded to a West Chico residence and contacted the suspect. After positive identification, the juvenile suspect was taken into custody without incident.
School resource officers also suspected the same juvenile may have been responsible for a robbery at Children’s Park that occurred shortly before the stabbing. Detectives and SRO’s were subsequently able to establish probable cause to request robbery charges as well.
The victim was treated at a local hospital before being released.
The juvenile suspect was sent to Butte County Juvenile Hall with the requested charges of 245PC – assault with a deadly weapon, 211PC – robbery, and 417PC – brandishing of a firearm.
