Speeding Vehicle Leads to Arrest of Stabbing Suspect
Case# 22-006507
On October 18, 2022, at about 10:30 a.m., a Chico Police Officer was conducting speed enforcement on Cohasset Road near East Avenue. The officer made a traffic enforcement stop on a truck for a violation of the speed limit. The vehicle had two occupants in it. While the officer was speaking with the occupants the passenger dropped a glass object into the door panel. The officer alerted to the sound of the object and the passenger admitted it was a glass methamphetamine smoking pipe. The passenger was placed under arrest.
The passenger provided a false name to officers on scene and refused to reveal his identity. Officers used various investigative tools and were able to determine the offender was Ryan Scott McCabe (42 years old). McCabe had two felony warrants out of separate jurisdictions of Idaho. One warrant was from an aggravated assault in the City of Boise. Officers contacted the Boise Police Department. A Boise PD Detective said McCabe is the suspect in a stabbing from July of this year. McCabe is wanted for stabbing a previous co-worker multiple times, and he has been on the run from authorities since the incident. Officers booked McCabe into the Butte County Jail and he is now pending extradition to Idaho.
The officers of your police department are dedicated to keeping your community safe. This is yet another example of how “routine” traffic enforcement can lead to the contact of dangerous individuals. Proactive enforcement is a vital component of policing because it often leads to the detection of suspects and crimes that would otherwise go unnoticed.
