Shots Fired, Felon with a Firearm Arrest

Chico, CA – On 3/8/20, at 10:12 p.m., the Chico Police Dispatch Center received multiple 911 calls of a fight at a party at 1117 W. Sacramento Avenue in west Chico.  Officers arrived at scene and learned that, during a fight, a subject presented a handgun and fired several rounds from the firearm, striking a vehicle and buildings in the apartment complex and an adjacent apartment complex.  Officers obtained a description of the suspect from witnesses and soon located a man matching the description of the armed suspect, walking on W. Sacramento Avenue.  The suspect, identified as 24 year old Asante Ayers, attempted to discard a handgun when he was contacted by the Officers.  The firearm was determined to have been stolen and Ayers is a convicted felon.  Ayers was arrested for the following charges:

29800(a)(1) PC;       Felon in possession of a firearm

25400(a) PC;            Carry a concealed firearm

30305(a)(1) PC;       Felon in possession of ammunition

487(d)(2) PC;            Possession of a stolen firearm

1203.2(a) PC;           Violation of Probation

148(a)(1) PC;            Resisting arrest

Ayers was booked at the Butte County Jail in Oroville and is being held on $95,500 bail.
