Shooting on W. 5th Street near Oak Street

Chico, CA – On 2/22/2020 at approximately 1:17 a.m. two men were walking on West 5th St., near the intersection with Oak St., Chico, Ca. A vehicle stopped in the roadway ahead of them. One of the occupants of the vehicle produced a firearm and fired a shot into the air. Moments later he fired a second shot towards the two men.
The vehicle then sped off. Neither of the two pedestrians was hurt. Officers closed W. 5th St. between Oak and Ash Streets for a short period of time while Crime Scene Investigators processed the scene.
There is no known motive for this confrontation and, at this time, we believe it to be a random act of violence. The vehicle was described as a white smaller import sedan. Anyone with information on this incident, is asked to contact the Chico Police Department and reference case #20-001214.
