Shooting Suspect in Custody

At approximately 4 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, the Chico Police Department responded to the area of Warner Street and W. 1st Avenue on a report of a gunshot victim. Officers arrived within three minutes and found one juvenile gunshot victim. The victim was transported to Enloe Medical Center and is in serious, but stable, condition.
Officers were able to determine an altercation occurred between two juveniles at a party off of W. 2nd Avenue in west Chico. During the altercation, one of the juveniles shot the other juvenile. Officers learned of a description of the suspect and an accomplice.
During an area check, responding officers and a CPD Motor Sergeant located two people running through the campus of Chico High School who matched the suspect descriptions. The two fled from officers but were quickly detained by officers who had responded to the area. One of the two was positively identified as the suspect in the shooting. That juvenile male was detained for suspicion of Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The other juvenile was detained for Battery on a Peace Officer and Resisting Arrest with Threats or Violence. Both were transported to the Butte County Juvenile Hall.
