Robbery Suspect Apprehended with Police K9

On September 3rd, 2023, at 1:48 p.m., the Chico Police Dispatch Center received a call about a man who was wanted for Robbery and Assault with a Deadly Weapon at the Rite Aid store last week causing a disturbance outside Butte County Behavioral Health. On Saturday August 26, the man was in the process of stealing merchandise from the Rite Aid at 650 Mangrove Avenue on when he slashed a large fixed-blade knife at an employee of the store. The employee had minor injuries and the suspect fled the store. He was later identified as 24 year old Cameron Navarro with the assistance of store surveillance.

Today, officers arrived and began a search for Navarro around the Butte County Behavioral Health building on Cohasset Road. Navarro was located on the north side of the building but was uncooperative and holding a fixed blade knife. Officers spend a considerable amount of time speaking to Navarro in an attempt to de-escalate the situation but Navarro continued to be non-compliant. Based on the violence of the crime he was wanted for committing and concerns Navarro would escape and be a threat to public safety, CPD K9 Kimbo was successfully deployed and Navarro was taken into custody.

After a medical clearance for wounds sustained from K9 Kimbo, Navarro was transported to the Butte County Jail having been arrested for 211 PC; Robbery, 245(a)(1) PC; Assault with a Deadly Weapon and 148(a)(1) PC; Resisting Arrest.
