Today at about 12:00 p.m. Chico Police Officers responded to a call for service wherein Mr. Kevon Cunningham (21 years) was alleged to have vandalized an apartment and vehicle. Mr. Cunningham was acting hostile and unwilling to leave his apartment to speak with officers. Officers confirmed there was no immediate danger to other citizens and disengaged when they were unable to locate any victims desiring prosecution for the vandalism.
At about 3:45 p.m. Chico Police Dispatch began receiving multiple calls for service related to Mr. Cunningham riding a skateboard in the middle of East Ave taunting citizens and impacting vehicle traffic. Officers contacted Mr. Cunningham on East Ave near White Ave. Mr. Cunningham resisted a responding officer, and a Taser device was deployed on him. Mr. Cunningham continued to resist, and the officer deployed a single baton strike to Mr. Cunningham.
Medics arrived to treat Mr. Cunningham for any immediate medical needs. Mr. Cunningham was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation prior to be cleared for incarceration at Butte County Jail.
A vandalism victim from early in the day contacted Chico Police desiring prosecution for damage to their vehicle. As such, Mr. Cunningham was booked under the charges of 148(a)(1) PC; resist/delay an officer, and 594(b)(1) felony vandalism.
