Prowling and Theft Arrest

On 3/27/22 at approximately 2:36 PM, CPD Officers responded to the 1300 block of Salem St. for a reported bicycle theft in-progress. The reporting party said the suspect, later identified as Omar Rivera-Martinez, attempted to steal a bicycle belonging to their neighbor. Officers responded to the scene and attempted to contact Rivera-Martinez. Rivera-Martinez immediately fled into several backyards of residences in the area. Officers established a perimeter and with the assistance of a Police K9 and a Police Drone, officers located Rivera-Martinez hiding in the backyard of a residence in the 1200 block of Normal Ave. Rivera-Martinez was arrested without incident.

A search of Rivera’s possessions revealed a realistic BB handgun, two knives and methamphetamine. The bicycle was returned to its rightful owner and Rivera-Martinez was transported to the Butte County Jail. He was booked for prowling, 647(h) PC, petty theft, 484(a) PC, possession of a controlled substance, 11377(a) H&S, and resisting an officer, 148(a)(1) PC.
