Prowler Arrests

Case# 20-006486

Post

Chico Police K9 Aaron and his handler Officer Dave Martin have been busy arresting prowlers over the past 30 hours. Officer Martin and K9 Aaron work the graveyard shift Monday thru Thursday. K9 Aaron is a 7 year old Belgian Malinois. On Wednesday morning just after midnight, Chico Police Officers along with K9 Aaron responded to a prowler call on Berkley Lane, north of Palmetto Ave. After officers arrived, K9 Aaron went to work and quickly picked up the scent of the suspect. Officers followed K9 Aaron to an area between Arbutus Ave and Berkley Lane where the suspect was located in a fenced in backyard. The suspect, identified as 19 year old Kyle Sheeter of Chico, CA was taken into custody. Sheeter had in his possession, property stolen out of a vehicle and from a carport nearby. Sheeter was booked into the Butte County Jail for prowling and theft.

On 11/26/20 at approximately 0300 hours Chico officers and K9 Aaron went back to work on another prowler call, in the same area, Calgary Lane and E. 1st Ave. When officers arrived they set a perimeter around the last known location of the suspect. K9 Aaron’s handler, Officer Martin, gave an announcement that the K9 had been deployed and for the suspect to surrender. K9 Aaron let out a few loud barks which immediately prompted the suspect, identified as 39 year old Ricky Canady out
Sacramento, CA, to announce himself and surrender to police without further incident.

The Chico Police Department would like to remind everyone to be sure and lock up their homes, vehicles, and other property when left unattended as a deterrent to theft. Property crimes do increase around the holidays with the absence of those who may be traveling out of the area.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
