Orbeez Challenge Arrest

On Tuesday, September 25, 2023, at about 6:40 p.m., the Chico Police Dispatch Center received a report of a shooting that had just occurred at Oak Way Park near W. 8th Ave and W. Sacramento Ave. The victim described being shot at by a passenger of a red Chevrolet Malibu sedan. The victim believed they were being shot at with a real firearm.

Officers arrived in the area and located the suspect vehicle, which was still occupied. The occupants were removed from the vehicle, and witnesses identified one of the occupants, Mr. Landon Ruggles (18 years), as being the shooter. A search of the vehicle located a BB-style air gun in the vehicle. Mr. Ruggles was arrested for shooting the BB gun in a grossly negligent manner; PC 246.3.
