Officer Injured During Violent Assault

Case# 20-004858

On September 6th, 2020, at approximately 6:54 pm, Chico Police officers responded to West 8th Avenue and Nord Avenue on the report of a welfare check. It was reported that a male subject was walking in the roadway, possibly intoxicated. When officers arrived, they attempted to make contact with a male subject matching the description. The subject later identified as 21-year-old Aaron Dugger; ignored officers and walked away. Duggar than began walking between houses and ultimately jumped a fence into the rear yard of an occupied residence in the 1800 block of Lodge Pine Lane. When the resident noticed Duggar in their backyard, the resident confronted Duggar about trespassing. Immediately Duggar removed a handgun and threatened to kill the resident.   Duggar continued jumping fences and was observed running in the backyard of a home in the 100 block of Zinnia Way. The homeowner confronted Duggar and began fighting him. Duggar was able to flee and was immediately confronted by a Chico Police officer. The officer and Duggar were involved in a violent altercation in which the officer sustained a significant injury. Duggar was taken into custody, and a loaded stolen firearm was located where Duggar was fighting with the officer.   The officer was transported to Enloe Hospital, where he is stable condition. Duggar was medically cleared and transported to the Butte County Jail, where he booked on a variety of charges to include: Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Criminal Threats, Brandishing a Firearm, Assault on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.   This weekend was jam-packed for Chico Police officers. This incident is one of several significant events during the weekend in which subjects violently resisted and/or fought with officers. Other than tonight, luckily, no significant injuries occurred to the suspects or police during these violent events.
