On October 23, 2022, at approximately 3:21 pm, Chico Police Officers responded to the 300 block of Newport Drive on a report of shots fired from inside a residence. It was reported that a male subject, later identified as Lonnie Davis (56-year-old Chico resident) fired a single round from a handgun after an altercation with a family member. Officers immediately responded to the address and established a perimeter around the home. Officers were able to make contact with the reporting party and have her exit the home without incident. Neighboring homes were then evacuated and a shelter in place was ordered. Chico Police deployed a UAS drone and noticed Davis sitting on the front porch of the house talking on a cellphone. Davis complied with the commands and was detained without incident. A search of the home resulted in the seizure of several firearms including the firearm used in the shooting. Davis was transported to the Butte County Jail where he was booked for violation of 246.3 PC – (Negligent Discharge of a Firearm).
