On 7/26/2020, at approximately 12:31 pm, Chico Police Dispatch received a 911 call regarding shots seen at West 9th Street and Cedar Street. Chico Police units responded to the scene and located a male subject suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. Chico Police began life saving measures. It was also learned by witnesses that the suspect had fled on foot, still carrying the firearm. Officer saturated the area and located a possible suspect in the area of Dayton Road and Walnut Street. The suspect was detained. The victim was transported to Enloe Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Detectives were called out to the scene and are actively investigating the case. The victim’s name is being withheld until notification of next of kin. This investigation is on-going and active, and no further information will be released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation. This appears to be an isolated incident with no other public safety concerns.
The adult victim in this investigation has been identified as 28 year old, Chico resident, Scott Thomson. Shortly after this incident occurred, responding patrol officers were able to locate and detain an alleged suspect. That suspect was identified as 23 year old, Chico resident, Kai Perrelli. The Chico Police Detective Bureau responded to the scene and conducted a homicide investigation. After interviewing witnesses, processing the crime scene and serving a search warrant, it was determined that Kai Perrelli was the suspect in this case.

Perrelli was booked on a count of Murder and was transported to the Butte County Jail.
