Multiple Subjects Shot at a House Party

On 9/3/22 Detectives and Patrol Officers viewed video captured at the time of the incident. Several Officers recognized the suspect as a 16-year-old juvenile from prior contacts. Detectives began searching for the subject. During this search, people familiar with the suspect, reached out to him and talked him into surrendering at the Chico Police Department. The suspect was taken into custody without incident at approximately 4:31 PM.

This was an example of a senseless crime that resulted in the serious injury of innocent partygoers. Unfortunately, due to the age of the suspect, no further information can be released about his identity. The juvenile was transported to Butte County Juvenile Hall.

Detectives are continuing with this morning’s shooting investigation and following up on several leads.

Detectives were also able to obtain updates on the conditions of the 5 victims who were shot during the incident. Three of the victims were treated and released from an area medical center. The two remaining victims are continuing to undergo treatment. Contrary to rumors that may have been circulating on social media, at this time all 5 victims survived the attack.

The Chico Police Department will continue to update this case as releasable information becomes available.

On 9/3/2022 at approximately 1:45 AM, Officers were in the area of W. 5th Street and Cedar Street when they heard the sound of apparent gunshots west of their location. As Officers conducted an area check near the 1500 block of W. 5th Street, the Chico Police Department dispatch center received multiple 911 emergency calls in regards to multiple subjects that had been shot near this location. Officers arrived and located multiple victims that had suffered from gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began life-saving measures and five subjects were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Detectives from the Chico Police Department responded and continued the investigation. The investigation is currently ongoing.
