Multi-Jurisdictional Best Buy Thief Arrested

On 8/16/23, Chico Police Officers responded to a report of a subject stealing video games from Best Buy in Chico. The suspect brazenly placed the store products into a plastic bag that he had brought with him. This subject had reportedly stolen items from Best Buy in the past and was familiar to store employees. When employees confronted the suspect, the suspect stated, “There’s nothing you can do about it,” and “The cops won’t do anything.” Chico Police obtained a license plate for the suspect vehicle and later identified the suspect as the registered owner of the vehicle, Mitchell David Dennis (23 yrs old).
Chico Police Detectives conducted follow-up investigation and discovered that Dennis was suspected of completing the same violations at numerous other Best Buy stores in the Sacramento area. On September 2nd , 2023, Dennis was contacted by Folsom Police Department attempting to steal items from Best Buy. He was arrested on numerous felony theft warrants.
Chico Police Detectives responded to a residence in Oroville and executed a search warrant of the residence. Detectives found evidence related to the thefts from Best Buy in Chico. Dennis has been in custody at Sacramento County Jail, El Dorado County Jail and more recently Butte County Jail. Dennis was recently extradited to Butte County and is suspected of committing the following violation in Chico, CA: 487(a) PC: Grand Theft.
