On April 22, 2022, at approximately 10:13 pm, Chico Police Officers responded to the 2200 block of Notre Dame Boulevard to investigate a domestic violence incident. During the investigation, officers developed probable cause to arrest 31-year-old Chico resident Johnathan Johns for felony domestic violence. Johns was also found to have a felony warrant for his arrest out of Butte County. Officers determined that Johns was hiding in a nearby apartment. Officers attempted numerous de-escalation methods; however, Johns refused to surrender. Due to the violent nature of the offense, Officer Cox deployed his canine partner “Pax” inside the apartment. “Pax” quickly located Johns and “Pax” was able to successfully take Johns into custody. Johns was transported to Enloe Hospital for treatment of several dog bites to his thighs. Johns was later transported to the Butte County Jail where he was booked on felony domestic violence and felony warrant.
