Human Remains Discovered

On 02-27-2021 at 9:18 AM, the Chico Police Department received a report of some human remains located in an area east of Chico near Hwy 32. The reporting party who was in the area walking his dogs located the remains and immediately called the police. Officers responded to the area and secured the scene. With the assistance of the Butte County Sheriff’s office and Chico State Anthropology unit, the remains were processed and recovered.
At this time, the Butte County Coroners Office is in the process of trying to determine the cause of death and the identity of the remains. We are in the early stages of this investigation and once we determine the identity of the remains an updated press release will be completed.
