Felon arrested with loaded firearm

On 8/10/22 at approximately 1942 hours Chico Police Dispatch received a report of brandishing of a firearm in the 600 block of E. 12th St. The victim, a woman and her toddler child, stated the suspect, for an unknown reason, was tailgating them. The victim pulled to the shoulder of the road to allow the suspect to pass. The suspect passed the victim then turned around and drove back toward the victim. As the suspect passed the victim in the opposite direction, the suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and her child before speeding away.
The victim called 911 to report the incident and provided a description of the suspect and the vehicle he was driving. Officers located the suspect vehicle in the area of the Dorothy Johnson Center within five minutes of the 911 call and conducted a high-risk vehicle stop.
The driver of the vehicle, Mario Urzua-Avalos (01/21/2002), was detained. After Urzua-Avalos was detained, a loaded handgun matching the description provided by the victim was located inside Urzua-Avalos’ vehicle. The victim positively identified Urzua-Avalos as the person who committed the offense. Urzua-Avalos was arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail on the following charges:
417.3 PC – Brandishing of a Firearm from a Vehicle
1203.2(a)PC – Felony Violation of Probation
29800(a)(1) PC – Felon in Possession of a Firearm
30305(a)(1) PC – Felon in Possession of Ammunition
25850(a) PC – Carrying a Loaded Firearm in a Vehicle
