On June 28th, 2022 at about 1003 hours, Chico Police Dispatch received several 911 calls regarding a vehicle collision on Forest Avenue near Hartford Drive. Officers arrived on scene and discovered an elderly female on the ground who had been hit by a passing vehicle. The vehicle immediately stopped and remained on scene. The 32-year old driver, his fiancé, and his grandmother, who were passengers in the vehicle, all provided statements to the investigating Officers. Several witnesses also provided their statements. The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where she later passed away from injuries sustained in the collision.
Through the investigation, Officers learned that the driver did not display any objective symptoms of impairment, and voluntarily submitted to a blood draw. Based on the minor damage to the vehicle and short stopping distance, speed was also not a factor in the collision. The pedestrian was positively identified as Martha Davis, an 86-year-old female from Chico. Investigators determined that Davis was crossing Forest Avenue outside an unmarked crosswalk.
