Fatal Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Collision



On January 29th, 2022 at about 6:35pm, Chico Police Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on Notre Dame Blvd. near Raley’s. Officers arrived on scene as emergency personnel were tending to the downed pedestrian. Officers learned that the pedestrian was crossing Notre Dame Blvd in an eastbound direction while pushing a shopping cart. A northbound vehicle did not see the pedestrian and struck him before he finished crossing the road. The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Officers from the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) were called in and took over the investigation. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. Speed nor alcohol played a factor in this collision. The pedestrian did not possess any identification and his identity is still unknown. The roadway was closed for approximately 5 hours while the scene was processed. Investigators have very little information about this collision and are asking for the public’s help.
