Fatal Vehicle Collision

On 01/30/2022 at 4:55 PM, Chico Police Officers were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision that occurred near the intersection of E 5th Avenue and Neal Dow Avenue. Officers arrived on scene along with medical personnel.

It was determined that two subjects in one of the vehicles had unfortunately died as a result of injuries sustained during the collision. Another person suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The intersection remained closed for approximately 6 hours while the Chico Police Department MAIT (Major Accident Investigation Team) took over the investigation, which is still ongoing.

UPDATE

On 01/31/2022 at 1200 hours, the Chico Police Department MAIT (Major Accident Investigation Team) placed Matthew Moen, of Oroville CA, under arrest for the fatal collision that occurred on 01/30/2022. Moen was booked into custody at the Butte County Jail for the following crimes:

Two counts of 191.5 (a) PC, Gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
