Fatal Vehicle Collision

On August 6th, 2020 at about 0730 hours, Chico Police Department responded to a vehicle versus a pedestrian collision at the roundabout intersection of Yosemite Drive and Idyllwild Circle. Upon arrival Officers discovered that the pedestrian suffered fatal injuries from the collision. Due to the severity of the injuries, Chico Police Major Accident Investigation Team was activated and responded to the scene.
The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was fully cooperative with the investigators. The driver was identified as Jiang Junda, a 55-year old Chico resident. The pedestrian was identified as Patricia Coombes, a 92-year old Chico resident. Junda did not show any symptoms of intoxication and voluntarily submitted to a blood test. The investigation revealed that the female had been pushing her walker in the roadway, within the turn of the roundabout. The driver of the pick-up truck did not see Coombes and struck her traveling at a slow speed of approximately 10 MPH.
At this time, it does not appear that Junda violated any laws and will not be charged for any vehicular offenses. The roadway was closed for approximately 5 hours. Anyone else who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Chico Police Traffic Division at 897-4970.
