Fatal Traffic Collision

UPDATE

Chico Police have identified the involved parties to the fatal collision from Friday night.  They are as follows:  Pedestrian, Brandon Detar, 36-year old male from Chico was killed in the collision.  Driver of the first vehicle was Antwon Jackson, a 29-year old male from Chico.  The driver of the second vehicle was Griffith Gilles, a 41-year old male from Chico.  After examining all the physical evidence, Investigators have determined that Detar made a sudden movement into the roadway which caused him to be struck.  There was nothing Jackson could have done to avoid the collision.  Jackson did not stop after the collision and drove the remaining half mile home where he called 911.  Detar did not move after the first collision and remained in the roadway.  Gilles did not see Detar laying in the roadway and struck him, which caused Detar to be lodged under his vehicle.  Gilles stopped and immediately called 911.  The quick action of a tow truck driver from Brown’s Towing lifted the vehicle off of Detar.  Emergency personnel rendered aid and transported Detar to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.  Jackson failed to notify the authorities immediately after the collision and the applicable charges will be filed with the District Attorney’s Office at the conclusion of the investigation. Jackson was not impaired and has fully cooperated with the investigation. Although Gilles did not contribute to the cause of the collision, it was determined that he was driving under the influence and was subsequently arrested. ———Fatal Traffic Collision———

On Sept 11^th 2020 at about 9:15 pm, the Chico Police Department received a 911 call of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on Nord Avenue at La Linda Lane.  Police Officers and Chico Fire Personnel responded to the scene and located the pedestrian unresponsive. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where lifesaving efforts were performed. However, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries as a result of the collision. The Chico Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) was activated and responded to the scene.  The roadway was closed for approximately 5 hours as the scene was processed.  No further information will be released until the investigation is further along.
