Fatal Collision

On June 6^th at about 9:30 p.m. Chico Police Officers located a stolen blue Dodge sedan in the 1300 block of East Ave.  The vehicle drove through the intersection of East Ave and Mariposa Ave.  The officer activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, and the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed westbound on East Ave.  The officer elected not to pursue the stolen vehicle due to the dangers associated with high-speed driving in a residential area with wet roads and poor lighting.

The stolen blue sedan continued driving westbound East Ave at a high rate of speed, running a red light at the intersection of Cohasset Rd.  The blue sedan collided with a Hyundai sedan traveling southbound on Cohasset Rd.  The driver (sole occupant) of the stolen blue sedan was pronounced deceased on-scene. The driver and the sole passenger of the Hyundai were both transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The intersection of East Ave and Cohasset Rd remains closed at this time and is expected to be closed for the next several hours while the Chico Police Major Accident Investigation Team conducts the preliminary components of their investigation.
