Fatal Collision

Case# 21-4787

Post

On Sunday night, August 8th, 2021 at about 10:40pm, a Chico Police Officer was on patrol near Home Depot on Notre Dame Blvd. when he attempted to stop a motorcycle for having an unreadable license plate. The motorcycle slowed briefly, then accelerated rapidly in attempts to evade arrest. The motorcyclist was last seen crossing the Skyway traveling n/b on Notre Dame Blvd. The Officer did not pursue the reckless motorcycle due to risk to the public. The Officer stopped for the red light, then continued when the light turned green. The Officer drove in the same direction, but at the speed limit and without lights and siren. The Officer believed that a crash was inevitable due to how fast the motorcycle was traveling. Approximately .7 miles north of the Skyway and around a slight bend, the Officer came across the crashed motorcycle in the 2100 block of Notre Dame Blvd. The Officer found the motorcycle in the street and the rider deceased nearby. It appeared both the motorcycle and the rider impacted a pick-up truck that was parked in a driveway. The Chico Police Major Accident Investigation Team was called in and took over the investigation. All the evidence at the scene indicated the motorcycle impacted the parked truck at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle rider had identification on him and was positively identified, but his identity is being withheld until the rider’s family is notified. The roadway was closed for several hours during the investigation but was re-opened at 4am.

Chico Police is asking anyone that may have seen this collision, or anyone with home security cameras that may have captured the collision, to call our Traffic Division at 897-4970.
