Case#22-000246
On 1/13/2022 at approximately 1143 hours Chico Police offices
were dispatched to E. 5th St. and Main St. where a victim of an
assault was located. The victim, a male in his 70’s, was working
as a Downtown Ambassador when he was approached and assaulted by
a suspect familiar to him. The suspect, Patrick Jeremiah (37 yo),
is a local transient who frequents the downtown area.
At the time of the assault the victim was throwing away garbage
he had picked up while working in the DTA. As the victim did so,
Suspect Jeremiah approached him
and randomly began punching the victim. The victim fell to the
ground and Jeremiah
continued the assault by kicking the victim while he was on the
ground. Two witnesses, passing by in vehicles, stopped to
intervene in the assault. Before they could get to the assault
victim, Jeremiah walked away. Jeremiah was stopped by police and
code enforcement officers, a short distance away. Jeremiah was
positively identified by the victim and witnesses as the person
who committed the assault. The victim suffered
abrasions and a broken hip because of the assault. He was
transported to Enloe Hospital for treatment. Due to the age of
the victim and the type of assault Jeremiah was booked into Butte
County jail for elder abuse and assault with a deadly weapon,
other than a firearm.
