Distribution of Antisemitic Flyers
Case # 23-000930
The Chico Police Department is investigating the distribution of antisemitic flyers to various homes in the Avenues neighborhoods.
On Monday, February 13, Chico Police Officers responded to Arcadian Avenue after receiving a report that several antisemitic flyers were distributed to multiple homes in the area.
Officers located and collected several flyers but do not have a person of interest at this time.
Based on the information and facts gathered thus far, it appears that this is a general distribution of hate material and not a directed effort against any specific person.
We believe everyone deserves to feel safe and respected, regardless of race, religion, or any other characteristic. We take these reports very seriously and will continue investigating. We will also increase patrols in the areas affected and follow up with our Jewish community partners in the coming days.
We also want to encourage members of the public to report any incidents of hate or bigotry they witness or experience.
Building a more inclusive and respectful community requires ongoing effort and collaboration. We are committed to doing our part to promote a culture of tolerance and understanding, and we urge all members of our community to join us in this important work. Attached are informational fact sheets and brochures produced by the California Department of Justice outlining information on hate crimes and incidents, resources for victims, and actions we can all take to protect one another.
We ask residents in the affected areas to check their surveillance systems for activity consistent with distributing flyers. We believe the flyers were distributed in the evening hours on Monday, February 13. Anyone with information is asked to please contact the Chico Police Department at (530)897-4911, reference case number 23-000930.
