Discharge of a Firearm

On October 29th, 2022, around 2:00 AM Chico Police Officers were monitoring a large crowd in City Lot 1 after bar closing. The officers heard and witnessed a firearm being discharged in the air. The crowd quickly dispersed. Several vehicles were seen leaving the area. A possible suspect vehicle was identified. A vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle was seen in the area and an investigative stop was conducted. Officers determined the driver and vehicle were not involved in the discharge of the firearm.

Shortly after this call, a subject walked into a local hospital with a gunshot wound. Detectives from the Violent Suppression Unit responded and determined these two incidents were unrelated. The victim with the gunshot wound is expected to survive. The investigation into both cases is ongoing.
