Death in Public Right of Way

On Tuesday, June 20, around 11:14 a.m., the Chico Police Dispatch Center received a call from a park visitor reporting a deceased individual in a parked vehicle in Upper Bidwell Park. Patrol Officers promptly responded and confirmed the male occupant of the vehicle was deceased.

Due to the nature of the incident and the presence of a firearm inside the vehicle, Chico Police Detectives were called to the scene to initiate an investigation. Following the investigation, it was determined the cause of death was an apparent suicide.

The Chico Police Department would like to express our deepest condolences to the family of the decedent. At this time, we will not be releasing their identity.
