Death Investigation behind 25 Main Street

On 4-24-20 at about 1100 hours, Chico Police Department dispatch received a report of a male, in his 50-60’s, sitting in the creek behind 25 Main Street. The caller said the water was up to the male’s chest, but that he “Seemed extremely out of it.” While officers responded to the scene, the caller reported the male had fallen into the water and that she was running down to help. Officers arrived on scene to find an employee from the Chico Research Foundation administering CPR on the male. CPR efforts were taken over by Chico Police Officers, Enloe Medics, and Chico Fire personnel. Continued CPR efforts did not revive the male. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene. The deceased male was identified as a 62-year-old Chico resident. The identity of the male will be withheld, pending next of kin notification. The cause of death is unknown at this time and the initial investigation did not reveal any signs of foul play.
The Coroner’s investigation was turned over to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office.
