Daytime Shooting

On 5/12/2023, at 12:24 p.m., the Chico Police Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding shots seen on N. Cedar Street at W. 1st Avenue in West Chico. The caller stated they saw two men get out of a vehicle stopped at that intersection and get into an argument with a man walking nearby. During the argument, one of the men who exited the vehicle pulled out a gun and shot toward the man who was walking. The two suspects then got into the vehicle and fled the area northbound on N. Cedar Street. The man who was shot at continued walking southbound on N. Cedar Street. Officers arrived within three minutes and began an area check for any of the involved persons. Officers were unable to locate the man walking and were unable to locate the suspect vehicle.
The two suspects were described as Hispanic males, one wearing a grey shirt and a second wearing a red shirt. The vehicle was described as a blue sedan (4 doors) with front-end damage. They were last seen northbound on N. Cedar Street. The victim was described as a white male adult wearing a grey shirt walking with a pit bull dog. Based on the evidence at the scene, it does not appear that anyone was injured in this incident.
Chico High School was placed on a temporary lockdown due to its proximity to the incident, not due to any specific threat to the school or students.
